If you are looking for the best in design from the last century or the latest in future collectables from this one, look no further than Midcentury.Modern. Recognising the eclectic way people dress their homes Midcentury.Modern has fast established itself as the number one destination for sourcing the antiques of the future without the huge retail mark-up. Designed as an unpretentious one stop shop for busy people who appreciate collecting beautiful pieces for their homes, you can find everything for the eclectic home at this show from an original Eames rocker to a contemporary ceramic from a hot young British designer. At Christison Hall do a walkabout amongst some of Britain’s top mid-century dealers in Scandinavian, European and American mid-century furniture and decorative arts. Then head upstairs for the coolest wares from top young British designers including People Will Always Need Plates and Tracy Kendall. Source the latest wallpaper, ceramics, fabrics and great gifts. But it doesn’t stop there. Collectors on the hunt for specialist ceramics, fabrics, art and glass can take a walk to the South Cloisters where twenty more dealers are situated. Prices at Midcentury.Modern – £10–£5,000.

Set in the light and bright 60’s concrete and glass Christison-designed refectory and the North and South Cloisters at Dulwich College. Situated on the A205 South Circular near College Rd, SE21 7LD. Nearest train – West Dulwich (trains leave Victoria BR and take approximately 10 minutes). 5 minute walk to college. House of Lalka” is a collection of vintage artifacts sourced from the house of Regina Chmurska, a Polish dress maker who survived World War II. She spent a lifetime collecting and making clothes to replace the contents of her crocodile suitcase stolen during the German invasion.

Revived and hand picked by Regina’s Grandaughters, the pieces you see are either original vintage or redesigned inspired by Regina’s signature style.  We will be having our own modest section in Sisters and Daughters, and the evening will be a celebtration of Regina, all things vintage, and this opportunity as it was always her dream to have her own shop. We will be having live window displays, music, cupcakes from The Primrose Hill Bakery and Babysham!

OCTOBER 2010

Sunday 31st October

8: 30pm Katy Carr plays  Steamboat Bordello The Dixie Queen, Tower Millennium Pier off Lower Thames St London , EC3N 4DT

Katy Carr plays this Steam Boat Bordello event 31st Oct 2010

1840 – 1930 – the heyday of the Mississippi paddle steamer. These floating palaces of sin plied their trade up and down the mighty Mississippi from New Orleans to St Louis.

Specialising in unlicensed gambling, prohibited liquor and transactions of a carnal nature, the pleasure boats were the last bastion of Southern lawlessness. Now, step aboard the majestic Dixie Queen as The Last Days of Decadence brings a little of this lost age to the River Thames. A floating fantasmagoria of rogues, riverboat gamblers, good time girls, snake oil salesmen, fallen southern belles, confederate rifles, yankee doodle dandies, bootleggers, carnies, gypsies, tramps and thieves.

The Steamboat Bordello sets sail with 600 passengers from Tower Pier at 5pm sharp on Sunday 31st October, passing through Tower Bridge (opened especially for the occasion) and sailing onwards towards the Thames Barrier before returning to disembark St Katharine Docks at 10pm.

Step on board this Mississppi-style paddle steamer for a vintage night of ‘rogues, riverboat gamblers, good time girls, snake oil salesmen, fallen southern belles, confederate rifles, yankee doodle dandies…’ (you get the picture), recreating the kinds of floating palaces you’d see going down the Miss’ from New Orleans to St Louis. There’ll be live music from The Correspondents, Hot Club of Cowtown and more, with electro-swing and retro beats on the decks from the legendary Gaz Mayall and Lady Luck’s El Nino, plus many more cabaret antics from Dusty Limits, Fancy Chance, Ophelia Bitz, Katy Carr, Ruby Blues and more. You can sit down and have dinner or simply just dance the night away!
